Did You Know What Self-Care Was at First?

Published on: 14th May, 2023

What are you doing to mother you? A question that piqued curiosity, while also a significant shifting point in our own approach to self-care. Jill and Linda wonder what does that even mean? How can we mother ourselves? What are you doing for you? While the self-care term has peaked in popularity, did you actually know what self-care was before becoming a parent? Or was it just a fancy word? A whole lot of questions that we don’t necessarily have the answers to! Listen in as we think about these questions and more and touch on:

  • The mismatch of self-care for mamas vs self-care for individuals who may have just a little more time on their hands. Linda admits she’s sometimes barely surviving off the whiff of her next coffee and Jill knows that it's way more than yoga and your meditation cushion.
  • The dream ideal of dedicating our whole selves to self-care. There seems to be an entirety of people out there telling us what to do, yet the one size fits all approach is like a lumpy cushion that doesn’t work for most of us!
  • When pressure builds. When we feel like we are walking around like a pressure cooker, waiting to blow our tops.

Do you relate? These conversations are here to shift and shake us into change. If you have any further thoughts we would love you to reach out to us!

About the Podcast

Mucked Up My Self-Care Podcast

A podcast for moms about the real, raw, and unscripted perspectives of guilt-free self-care by two moms across the globe. This unedited podcast is real life and their personal experiences told in friendly conversation style. Advocating for all moms who have mucked up their self care.

There are so many others out there that aren't successfully solving the real problem of trying to figure out what self-care is. We want to bring to light the reality of what self-care can look like for moms who struggle to fit it in, don't know what will work for them, and the ways that it hasn't worked. We want to have conversations about the guilt we feel when we are pressured to mother ourselves when we don't know how and aren't given the support to in our society today.
