Unravelling Our Own Mucked Up Self-Care

Unravelling Our Own Mucked Up Self-Care

Today on the podcast Jill and Linda are unravelling and unpacking their journeys of self-care in all the mucked up kinda ways. Linda is in a different location; Jill is feeling just a bit flat – yet…. after this episode they were both in a lighter and much better place (and we hope that you might be too!). Listen in as they talk about:
Navigating big moments in life, puzzling emotions and how we put our best foot forward for whatever is next. How unravelling ourselves doesn’t have an end point and continues as we grow and shift.Pain points and untwisting ourselves from what we get used to as life changes.Different coping mechanisms and how we are honouring ourselves in self-care instead of putting it off.Compromises and unravelling how the out of the ordinary can sacrifice our self-care.How unravelling is a process and takes time, patience and remembering that pain points can be temporary and lead to better outcomes.
For more ideas when figuring out how to unravel when it comes to self-care, please send us an email, we put together some activities for you to guide and help you along the way.

    Misunderstood Self-Care

    Misunderstood Self-Care

Ironically, both Jill and Linda had different understandings of self-care and what that meant when planning for this episode. It makes for a fun discussion and means the conversation darts around several different points, including:
The landscape of self-care talk for self-care's sake. How self-care isn't about putting your own needs ahead of others.Self-care isn't typically about treats or pampering.Self-care and selfishness.Self-care isn't a list of behaviors; what constitutes self-care depends on the situation.Self-care involves a lot of the self-talk, not just the external things that other people see.Self-care isn't just by yourself, it's often social interactions and connections. It isn't a one and done situation.Others' understanding of what is self care for me- having to defend/explain that something is self care.

    Teaching our Kids about Self-Care

    Teaching our Kids about Self-Care

If you’ve been listening along to the podcast for a while, you’ve probably heard us talk about being living proof and living our self-care in ways that current match this phase of our life. What do you think our kids think about all this self-care talk and what does it mean to them? We explore how we are teaching the self-care down the generations and in this episode discuss:
Regulation and when emotions get larger than a mountain.Finding out what they enjoy.Talking to ourselves, them, and others about self-care and with kindness.Including them in self-care activities, while taking leadership alongside.Allowing them to take the lead.Self-care for boys and men too, how do they talk about it?Do you explain to them that your self-care is self-care and why you do it?Do you explain something that you recognise is self-care for them as a self-care practice?
